Support: Speaker style ALEXA

Hello! Welcome to the final room of the exhibition.
Have you ever wondered what your role is in terms of digital rights? Or how you can help to ensure they’re upheld?
Lots of people believe they have no impact on the creation of the digital world. I don’t know if this applies to you, but the fact is that every action counts. Every time you post on social media, share some news or create a project online, you influence the digital landscape. While we all have digital rights, it is also important to recognize that we also have certain duties and responsibilities.
To help you develop a “digital routine”, here are six devices that can inspire you. The digital photo frame, for example, will provide advice about your online legacy, while Wi-Fi networks will encourage you to support a cause promoting internet access. I’ll let you discover the rest for yourself.
If you incorporate this digital routine into your life, over time it could become as natural as brushing your teeth before bed. Enjoy!
RIGHT TO AN EXPLANATION AND HUMAN DECISION-MAKING
Device: ALEXA-style speaker

Now, take your time to explore the room. I’ll keep quiet. I don’t want to overwhelm you. It’s just that . . . I’ve been designed to have an answer for everything. I can’t help it!
But before I go, I’d like to tell you about one final digital routine you can adopt when interacting with technologies like me—that is, voice assistants.
To protect your right to explanation and human decision-making, you should always start by asking how I work. Understanding why I provide certain information and not others is the first step towards making a free choice.
If an automated decision affects you, ask for an explanation. Whenever possible, opt for human review, report any unfair algorithmic decisions and bear in mind that bots, or indeed I, can perpetuate biases too: we borrow them from the humans who programmed us.
Above all, don’t base your most important decisions on artificial intelligence—in the end, it’s just a highly sophisticated probability calculator. I’ll leave you to it now. But please remember: I’m here!

DuTy01: Guys, we discuss things respectfully here, so don’t be rude. Don’t just stick to your own opinions: listen to others with respect, because that’s how you learn the most. Diversity is the key to truth!
User: Totally! A diversity of perspectives is KEY to avoid living in a bubble.
Dutttttty02: It’s important to defend everyone’s right to express themselves, as long as they don’t resort to insults or disrespect. The internet is massive, there’s room for all of us, even if we don’t always see eye-to-eye!
DigitalDuty03: It’s a drag sometimes, but if we don’t do it, we won’t evolve. Don’t assume you know everything, guys!
DigitalDuty04: And be patient when you’re debating! You can explain things without trying to prove you’re the coolest, right? Without belittling others. Nobody is born knowing everything.
Dutttttttty02: Definitely, let’s goooo! The best thing is to speak respectfully if you want to share and be heard.

✅You know what a video surveillance camera is. And you are a human being.
V1: What does a camera mean to you? Is it a tool for security or surveillance? Protecting our privacy begins with asking ourselves how much surveillance we deem legitimate. We must demand that security and privacy are not mutually exclusive.

✅You know what cookies are. And you are a human being.
In the digital world, cookies are used to store information about our browsing activity, such as our location, purchases and searches. This data is sold and fed to companies, who then use it to study us. To protect our right to privacy, we should clear our cookies and browsing data regularly, change our passwords periodically and review the permissions granted to our apps (spoiler alert: they usually request more than necessary).

-You can (and should) request that the data you provided in 2008 gets deleted. It has been haunting you ever since.
– It would be great to consider what information about you would you like to remain online once you no longer want to o can use the internet.
– The digital graveyard is overflowing, so delete anything you no longer need. Deleting is saving.
– If someone asks you to delete a photo or file, do so. Do not be that detestable person who keeps or publishes content without consent.
